The Spirit of Christmas is Peace
An Alien learns why Christmas needs to be celebrated every year
Linda DeGree
This is a play about the true meaning of Christmas explained to an alien who has no idea of what Christmas is. It was adapted and written when the author had a classroom of 35 students needing to perform a Christmas play. It is a story told by a chorus of children and many angels in heaven.
Excerpts:
Angel 1:
It’s time to celebrate Christmas again.
Angel 2:
Yes, it’s time to sing our carols once more.
Angel 3:
I hope Little Carol doesn’t miss the celebration. She has missed it 1,922 times.
Angel 4:
She always says she won’t miss it. But she always misses it. It’s too bad.
Angel 1:
Yes, her carol is sweet.
Angel 2:
Sweet – her carol is lovely.
Angel 3:
It’s more than lovely. It’s beautiful. I certainly hope she sings I this time.
Alien:
Why did God’s Son become man?
Chorus:
Remember the discouraged people”. remember the hunger? Remember the children without a school. The lonely people? The people without jobs? The sickness and the fear people sometimes have? The son of God was born to teach the spirit of Christmas.
Alien:
Which is?
Chorus:
Peace. The spirit of Christmas is peace.
Chorus:
God created man in his own image and likeness;
Alien:
His own image and likeness?
Chorus:
People–men, women and most special of all children.
Alien:
Excuse me. I’ m not from your world. Tell me about people. About men women and children.
Chorus:
We’ll show you!
